I see, and thanks.

Yup I do remember Zippcast, I sort of liked that place, but VidLii is better as it offers so much more content.

Honestly I still like YT, plenty of nice content to find, but also alot of trash.

Hello there, there was some weird downtime a couple of days ago, at some point I feared this place was about to Die. :<
Glad it's still here however. You okay?

Exactly, the lists of a channel's friends, subscribers, and subscriptions are gone! They used to be a great way to go exploring other peoples' channels and find interesting ones to start a conversation with, and maybe make a new friend. I doubt YouTube even lets you send friend requests anymore. ("Ha, who needs friends when we have all these MONETIZED CLICKBAIT VIDEOS???")

They've made channels pretty much useless now for anything besides videos.

It's quite funny how they removed their old "Broadcast Yourself" slogan, because they obviously don't care about the average users or the stuff they upload anymore. The only people who are able to get views on their uploads are monetized channels, which are usually either big companies or other established "content creator" channels that are definitely not everyday users like you and me.

YouTube just wants to reduce everybody but the monetized channels to passive viewers of videos now.

That is definitely true, the type of people who use YouTube has changed. Nowadays there's so much talk about making money, and even a living, off of YouTube videos, but back then most people just uploaded for fun. If you try doing that today and don't monetize your videos, I doubt you'll get very many views.

Me too, I usually try and watch old uploads from the 2000s or early 2010s instead of something uploaded within the past few years. Those old ones aren't as annoying (in gaming videos, for example, the old ones usually don't have someone yelling "HEY WHAT'S UP, YOUTUBE, IT'S YO BOY HERE AND I'
M GONNA BE PLAYIN' SUPER MARIO FOR YOU TODAY!!!!"), and a lot of them aren't monetized, which means no ads.

Yeah, the copyright Nazism is also very terrible. YouTube used to be a glorious haven for piracy, but then Viacom and WMG threw a fit and ruined it for the rest of us. A lot of valuable old videos were removed as a result.

Yes, YouTube really has become boring. It's still useful as a massive repository of videos on just about anything, but it's not fun to use anymore. If you try and find genuinely interesting videos, most of the time you'll just be greeted by monetized clickbait garbage with all-caps titles.

I don't know about Channel 2.0 that much, Channel 1.0 for life!
