Help

Q: Is this service really free?

A: Yes, completely free.

Q: How can I share my videos and link to them from my website?

A: Copy the embed code that is under the video description and paste it on your website.

Q: What kind of videos can I upload?

A: You may upload any kind of personal video that you'd like to share with the world. We don't allow any videos containing sexually explicit content and your video must be appropriate for all audiences.

This still leaves a lot of room for creativity! Do you have a dog or a cat? Have you gone vacationing in Mexico? Do you live in the Netherlands?

These are just some examples of the videos that our users are uploading. In the end, you know yourself best. What would you like to capture on video?

Q: How long can my video be?

A: The time limit is currently set to 25 minutes for regular users and 35 minutes for Partners!

Q: What video file formats can I upload?

A: VidLii accepts video files from most digital cameras and from cell phones in the .3GP, .AVI, .FLV, .MOV, .MP4, .MPEG, .MPG, .WEBM, and .WMV file formats.

Q: How can I improve my videos?

A: We encourage you to work on your videos with software such as Windows Movie Maker (included with every Windows installation) or Apple iMovie. Using these programs you can easily rearrange your videos, add soundtracks, etc.

Q: What is your policy on copyright infringement?

A: VidLii respects the rights of copyright holders and publishers and is only accepting video uploads from persons who hold all necessary rights to the uploaded material. Our policy is to respond to any notices of alleged infringement that comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). If we receive a notice or otherwise have reason to believe that content you submitted infringes another party's copyright, your account may be terminated and the video removed from VidLii.

Q: What is age restriction?

A: Age restriction is a way to indicate that a video is inappropriate for viewers under the age of 18 and prevent them from watching it. You can set (and unset) any of your video uploads as age-restricted in the 'Edit Video' page for that video. Note that staff can also age-restrict a video, and this setting can't be reversed by the uploader.

When a video is set as age-restricted, it also won't show up anywhere for users younger than 18 except in My Subscriptions and on channel pages. For users 18 years old or over, the video won't show up on the Newest Videos, Community, or Home pages (except for the Subscriptions box) as well as in the Related Videos box (except for videos that are also age-restricted), but it will still show up everywhere else.

Q: Can I hide age-restricted videos for my account if I'm 18 years old or over?

A: Yes, you can do this under the 'Preferences' section on the Manage Account page. If you enable this setting, then all videos marked as age-restricted will be hidden from you in the same way that they're hidden for users under the age of 18. The only difference is that you'll be asked to confirm if you want to view age-restricted videos before they start playing.

Q: It keeps asking me to log in, what should I do?

A: Make sure you have cookies enabled.

Q: What are 'tags'?

A: Tags are basically keywords that describe your videos. For example, if you have a surfing video, you might choose to tag it with 'surfing', 'water', and 'waves'. Other users that enjoy watching surfing videos can then search for those tags and your video will appear in their search results.

Q: How do I download videos?

A: While we do not support downloading, you can add videos to your account's favorites list for future viewing - simply click the 'Favorite' button below the video player.

Q: How do I remove a video?

A: To remove one of your videos, simply go to the watch page of your video and click on the 'Delete Video' button right under the video description. Alternatively, you can also go to the 'My Videos' page and delete a video from there.

Q: Is there a limit to how much I can upload?

A: The size limit is 2 GB per video. We also limit each user to a maximum of 10 video uploads per day.

Q: I found a channel/video that is violating the Community Guidelines. How to report it?

A: To report a video on VidLii, click the 'Flag' button below the video player and report the video for the rule that it's breaking. While there is currently no button to flag accounts, you can still report it to the staff:
